In a bid to help out the candidates for the Post Graduate Progamme in Management (PGP), Post Graduate Progamme in Agri-Business Management (PGP-ABM) and Fellow Programme in Management (FPM), the Students’ Affairs Council at IIMA brings the ‘Ask the Students’ initiative. We would be helping the candidates with queries regarding the interview process at IIMA. You can now mail us your queries at ‘askthestudents@iimahd.ernet.in’. We shall respond to the frequently asked queries on this blog. The more personal queries will be replied to you personally. Please do not forget to mention your complete contact details and background information along with your queries. This will help us respond better to your queries.
Please note that this is NOT an official initiative and is being wholly taken up the students to help out the aspirants. This is in no way linked to the official admissions process and needless to say, will not reflect in any way on the results. Also, our replies would be based on our experiences of the process last year and are in no way indicative of the process this year.
Although we are tied up with assignments and submissions in what promises to be the most hectic slot at WIMWI, we will try to respond to queries as soon as possible. Please bear with us in case of slight delay.

please give an answer for why pgp abm?
Hi,
The answer for ‘why ABM’ should come from with in you. All i can say is show your genuine interest in the program and convey what was the triggering factor that motivates to go for such a sector.
Any artificial answer is not suggested as it will be apparent in the interview.
The answer for why ABM should be your own and no one else can tell you.
Hello,
Since you are going to pursue a “post graduation” in a particular sector, it is important that you are making a well-informed choice. Hence, the question why ABM is the core question with the interview.
The ABM program is for people interested in agribusiness, rural and allied sectors and work in the same in the future. Going through IIM-Ahmedabad website gives you a fair idea about the course. It is advisable that you browse the internet about agribusiness sector in India and abroad to make a more informed choice. Think about your future plans and see how they align with the ABM program. Perhaps, it can help you to understand why ABM. The genuinity for the program shall naturally evolve within you when you realize your true interest in pursuing ABM.
Hope this helps.
All the best for preparation.
Also it is important that you state your own reasons for pursuing the ABM programme and not why the ABM programme has be part of IIM A.
Hi,
My uni gives a CGPA out of 10, do I need to take a conversion certificate (I will have to travel really far for that), or is *10 sufficient? Thanks..
Hello Rohan,
Kindly contact the admissions office for the same at the earliest. (contact details mentioned in the call letter sent to you) They would guide you about the same.
Since as you mentioned that you need to travel a lot, kindly ask the office for the same that whether they shall accept if you can get it scanned and receive via email/fax. Hope this helps.
Best of luck for your preparation.
Revert back in case of further queries.
Hi,
I completed my engineering in 2010 and have been working since. Would it suffice if I prepared 3 subject of engineering or should I prepare all?
Hi,
Just because its time that you completed your engineering doesn’t mean you shall not be questioned on your academics. A lot of people with work experience were asked about the basic knowledge of many academic subjects. Thus, the number of subjects is not a criterion for preparation. Since you have done engineering, you are expected to know at least the basic concepts related to it. If the interviewer asks about your favorite subjects and then poses questions pertaining to the same, its better to be well prepared in those subjects.
Best of luck for preparation.
Hello Deekshita,
Congratulations on your shortlist. 3 subjects of engineering are sufficient (most people do 2). However it makes sense to get a general idea of the very basic questions that could be asked from your stream. Some of the people I know used GRE texts as a reference to prepare their engineering stream in general and focused on a couple of subjects like you plan to do.
Prepare your area of interest really well, skim through the other subjects…You can always guide the interviewer to your area of interest even if a random subject is asked from your marksheet
Hi Deekshita,
The interview would concentrate more on your overall understanding of the subjects studied during engineering. It does not necessarily involve questions pertaining to a particular subject.
Have a broad overview of applications and the latest happenings in your stream of graduation and it will help you a lot in facing the interviewers.
Best of luck for your interview.
When will call letters for GD/PI will be given for PGP
will they be by post or email
what is the last date
If we dont recieve them then whom to contact
The call letters for the PI are sent by post and there probably wont be any email confirmation. I believe you should contact the admissions office in case you have changed your address.
Pls refer to questions already asked.
Hi,
I have been shortlisted for the PI but haven’t received an email confirmation on this. Also, I don’t live at the same address as mentioned in the CAT form, so if the form has been sent by post I might have a problem.
Can someone let me know if we will be getting an email confirmation with the form as well or is it only the one sent by post?
Hi Vishal,
You won’t be receiving any e-mail confirmation regarding your shortlist or your form.
About the change of address issue, I suggest you get in touch with the admissions office and track down the courier sent to you.
Kartikey Lande
PGP 2011-13
Thanks Kartikey,
I did write to the admissions office but din’t get a response. Will check with them again.
One last question, Do we need to submit something before the interview, as is the case with some of the other IIMs? If so, what is the last date to submit?
Regards,
The call letters for the PI are sent by post and there probably wont be any email confirmation. I believe you should contact the admissions office in case you have changed your address.
When will call letters be given for PGP
will they be by post or email
The call letters for PGP have been sent out by post if I’m not mistaken. Please contact the admissions office if you are yet to receive it.
i am a commerce student and i got a call from IIM-A AGRI-BUSSINESS MANAGEMENT. so,how should i prepare for the interview.can you give me some advice about the interview
Hello Satish,
Congrats for the call. The basic interview preparation is same as for any other program or institute. There might be a GD cum essay round as it was there last year too. Further, you should be well versed with the syllabus of the graduation as interviewer may pick some topic from there. Also, a basic knowledge of Agri sector is mandatory esp. current affairs like Food Bill, FDI in multi- brand, etc.
Also, one question that will be definitely asked is “Why you want to join PGP-ABM?” Prepare it well.
The admission criteria and form do not have a mention of a WAT this year. But there is a big empty space in the admission form this year which we are supposed to leave blank.
Does anybody have any idea if they are just having a PI this year and no WAT. Or will they ask us to write a short essay in that space?
I guess the big empty space is for an essay which will be a short one on the day of PI. That’s what happened last year.
No one knows what’s going to happen this year but better prepared for the essay and the PI. You need to focus more energy on the interview. Brush up on your subjects and prepare on whatever is on your Personal Data Form.
Can You Give us some questions to be prepared for the interview round and WAT.?
Hi Rahul,
I guess your knowledge and learnings in whatever you have done till now will be tested. Just stay calm and answer whatever you know. There is no set questions that would be asked. The interviews vary considerably, and are different for different students.
If you are a fresher, just brush up your subject knowledge, and if you are employed, you may be asked to talk about your on-the-job learnings. This is what I know. You would want to talk to others to know what else might be asked.
Thank you.
Ajay Kumar K.S.
PGP 2011-2013
The topics for the essay are mostly from current affairs and last year we got only 10 mins to write it…
I would suggest that you read a newspaper and have your own views about the prominent issues such as Lokpal Bill, FDI in multi brand, etc.
The interview does not have a set pattern… You would be asked about ur acads and work ex… But to what depth your knowledge and understanding would be tested depends on the interviewer….
The best tip for cracking the interview is prepare well but be yourself… Never memorize answers…. Be confident and smile a lot
This is regarding essay…A lot of people also had very generic topics last year…like abstract topics…and yes we got only 10 mins to complete it…
I would suggest practice writing some essays in case you are out of touch
For WAT, you can take a copy of the blank page that you got along with the admission form and take the topic for the essay from the editorial page of the newspapers.
For interview, brush up your fundamental of the core subjects that you took in engineering. Books on GATE preparation can help you in that.
