Hello,
I have a call for PGP program at IIM-A for 2012-2014. Below is brief on my profile:
X: 75%
XII: 87.8%
B Tech Civil Engg (IIT Roorkee): 8.243/10
Workex: 1 year in Energy Sector, 18 months with UBS Investment Bank in structured products APAC markets
CAT: OA:99.99, Q:99.92, V:99.69
My query is regarding the interview form. There is a field where in we need to enter the X and XII marks and it states as follows:
“Marks and percentages should be computed taking all subjects/papers that you appeared in the examinations even if some of these subjects/papers are not considered by the Board/University for computing final percentages of marks and awarding class/distinction”
In class XII, I had an additional subject Physical Education in which I did not study and even left the examination in between because I was very sick. It did not give it much consideration that time because it was an additional subject and CBSE board only considers best of 5 subjects for final marks calculation but I did not know that time it will reflect in my marksheet. I scored total 40 marks in the subject.
According to IIMA criteria, if I add marks for this subject too, my XII score comes from 87.8% to 79.5%. And if IIM-A follows the same criteria to calculate Application Rating score as it did for PI shortlisting (<60: 1, 60-80: 2, >80: 3), it will surely undermine my chances to a larger extent.
Any advice what should I do in this situation ? Is there any way where I can provide the reasoning to IIMA about my unintentional poor performance in additional subject? Will it be given any consideration ?
Thanks and Regards
Anshul Jain

HI,I am Atul CHauhan, I have got a cal for the PGP ABM program, I am doing my B.Tech in food technology and have no work experience it would be a great help if someone could guide me to what kind of questions I may expect in the interview.
Hello,
Since you are going to pursue a “post graduation” in a particular sector, it is important that you are making a well-informed choice. Hence, the question why ABM is the core question with the interview.
The ABM program is for people interested in agribusiness, rural and allied sectors and work in the same in the future. Going through IIM-Ahmedabad website gives you a fair idea about the course. It is advisable that you browse the internet about agribusiness sector in India and abroad to make a more informed choice. Think about your future plans and see how they align with the ABM program. Perhaps, it can help you to understand why ABM. The genuinity for the program shall naturally evolve within you when you realize your true interest in pursuing ABM.
Hope this helps.
All the best for preparation.
Also it is important that you state your own reasons for pursuing the ABM programme and not why the ABM programme has be part of IIM A.
Hello,
The questions are upon discretion of interviewer. But, why ABM is something you can expect and it is already in the form. Apart from that questions related to your form, background (graduation), sector pertaining to your graduation, future plans, HR based questions etc. can be expected.
Just try to give answers simply with a smile and honesty as if you are telling to a friend. There’s no need to be nervous. Just be yourself and be genuine.
Hi,
I have a call for PGP program at IIM-A for 2012-2014.
I have completed an Integrateded Master of Techology Program (5 years) and have been offered a single transcript which has marks of all 10 semesters. Also the degree offered in of Integrated M.Tech (5 Years).
Its not a dual degree program. My question is that :
1. In the interview form , how should I enter my graduation marks and degree?
(a) CGPA at the end of 6 semesters in Bachelors and CGPA at end of 10th semester in Masters ?
or
(b) CGPA at the end of 8 semesters in Bachelors and CGPA at end of 10th semester in Masters ?
2. What should I mark in the degree column as I have only one degree i.e for Integrated M.Tech (5 Years) after 10+2. There is no seperate degree for Bachelors as it was not a dual degree program.
Hello Rahul,
As far as I know, all integrated programs and dual degree programs are of the same format of 8 semesters + 2 semesters. So, enter the marks accordingly. (Confirm this from your previous university and call IIM A admissions office for the same)
Since, you are Masters, you should write bachelors and masters degree answers
However, i would suggest to kindly contact the admissions office still in case of further clarifications as they already calculated your scores in profile rating while giving interview calls.
Best of luck for your preparation.

Thanks for the reply.
As far as Application rating is considered it won’t have any impact because my CGPA or equivalent % is more than 80% in each semester throught out the program.
Another question comes what can people with 4 years of work ex expect at the interview.
Will it be focussed on academics or on job profile ?
Hi,
Since you are an engineer, you are expected to know the basics related to your academic stream. Apart from that, pick up few of your favorite subjects and study them in detail while brush up on the rest. There are no fixed subjects, it depends on the discretion of interviewer. It is perfectly correct to say, I don’t know in an interview. Just relax and be honest, you can always drive the interview towards your favorite subjects but then, you need to be well prepared with it.
It is also good to obtain the business/industrial information pertaining to your work industry. Recent technological advancements, major policy changes affecting the sector, business updates etc. (i.e. awareness about updates in your sector) also are advisable to prepare.
Best of luck with your preparation.

@Anshul, please get in touch with the Admissions Office (u can call or mail). They will be able to answer your queries better.
@Rizwan, Last year, family income was used to determine eligibility for the Income linked tuition fee waiver scheme, and we had to submit an Income certificate at the time of admission. Hope this answers your query!
All the best for your preparations and in case of any other doubts or questions please feel free to post !
(this year the same Income linked tuition fee waiver scheme is not available but there will be other schemes that may use similar criteria)
What is the purpose of asking the family income??? Is it for getting eligible for future scholarships or to check ur financial strength to pay the fee?? and do they ask for an income certificate too??
The purpose for asking family income is to decide whether you are eligible for Income Linked Tusion Fee Waver or similar scholarships. To get the waver you need to submit income certificate of parents. If any one of them is not working then you will have to submit self declaration letter for him/her.
P.S. keep income proofs always with you as they come handy whenever you apply for something for e.g. Bank Loan.

Dear Rizwan,
As far as I know, the purpose for asking family income is to deciding on whether you are eligible for (need based) scholarships or not in first place. It is just the income of your family excluding you. It is fine if you enter a round figure.
About the scholarships, IIM-Ahmedabad clearly states in its vision, “It is the endeavour of the Institute that no student be denied opportunity to pursue that PGP for want of adequate financial resources. It should be borne in mind however that no financial aid or scholarship would be automatic and may actually be denied or withdrawn from a student if his/her conduct is found to be unsatisfactory and sufficient to warrant such action. Pending sanction of financial aid/award of scholarship students are required to make payment of fees, mess charges, etc. on the due dates.” (quoted from RTI section on IIM-A website)
Further details and updates about scholarships shall be provided after your arrival on campus post admission. The requirement of certificates, aiding in getting a loan etc. shall be informed with your confirmation letter of admission.
Hope this answers your queries.
Best of luck for preparation.
